Web based examination entry and results system as secure as online banking
2 NOVEMBER 2007 - Redstone Managed Solutions, provider of single source IT and communications services, is extending its education sector services with the launch of WebXchange Examinations Management System (EMS).
WebXchange EMS is a high security, web based, file transfer and management system, giving schools a straightforward, cohesive and auditable process from inputting exam entry details through to receiving GCSE and ‘A’ Level results.
The system adds to the functionality of the existing WebXchange service by enabling schools to manage and submit entries and format and analyse results data into the management information they require, such as year groups and subject areas.
The entries and results data held on the system is 128 bit SSL encrypted, the same security level as most internet banking. Unlike files sent by e-mail or post, the file transfer system within WebXchange EMS is not dependant on or susceptible to human intervention.
Tariq Saied, managing director of Redstone Managed Solutions comments:
“Research has shown that schools entering only small numbers of candidates may not have felt that investing in a management information system delivered value compared with sending entry details and receiving exam results by post. This includes independent schools, faith schools, special schools and community colleges.
“School staff are under pressure to distribute results rapidly, but often have to enter results data into Excel or swap between formats to be able to process it. With WebXchange EMS we are providing schools with a robust and secure web-based system allowing upload of students and download of results, enabling schools to manage data and print off reports.”
WebXchange EMS reduces human effort and the risk of error. For example, by using the system schools can enter candidates with multiple exam boards. This eliminates repetitive and potentially error prone manual transcription of details and posting of different forms for each board.
Schools require no special equipment to use WebXchange EMS. All that it is required is access to an internet connection and a standard web browser
The development of WebXchange EMS is the latest development in Redstone Managed Solutions’ continuing growth in the education sector. Other developments and services include filtered e-mail, content control and hosting. Redstone Managed Solutions is BECTA-accredited for provision of Internet Services, a member of the Internet Watch Foundation and connected to the National Education Network provided by the JANET education and research network.
