Enhanced Servers and Storage Area Networks Will Support Modernisation and Growth

Dublin, 9 January 2008 Redstone Technology, the enterprise storage and server specialist, today announced that they have been awarded a four year contract to supply computer Storage Area Network (SAN) Equipment and services for the Department of Social and Family Affairs (DSFA).

The contract, awarded through public tender against stiff competition, will provide the DSFA with enterprise storage, storage resource management and information life cycle management systems, together with engineering consultancy for deployment and ongoing on site support.

The DSFA is engaged in a Service Delivery Modernisation (SDM) programme, which is being implemented in a number of self-contained projects. Each project has two ‘strands’ – one focused on developing the ICT system components and the other on implementing a parallel programme of organisational change. The purpose of the organisational change programme is to redesign work processes and organisational structures with a view to implementing modern work practices which, supported by a flexible technical architecture, will allow the Department to respond to change and to deliver a high quality, personalised and integrated service to customers.

Initial phases of the drawdown contract will support the SDM programme by aiding the migration of systems from existing storage to the SAN from end of life equipment and enhancing storage resource management tools to enable more flexible use of the SAN through virtualisation. This will reduce the resources needed to manage the Department’s expanding needs and simplify the deployment of new storage intensive applications.
